Many of you are falling for or have been duped by the outlandish and very wrong statements by the very far left with the concerns to the Religious Freedom Restoration Acts in some of our states...19 of them.
I'm not here to insult you. I'm here to help you because 'they', the far left, are not telling the truth. They are pleading to your feelings by fabricating false narratives of asinine 'what ifs'...that do NOT apply to this Law but are voiced to shake you to your core and make you want to stand up and shake your hand in the air...."WE WILL NOT SUFFER THESE FOOLS AND THIS DISCRIMINATION!"
I'm sorry my friends...
It's time for me to stand up and tell you that the hyperbole you are emphatically repeating is wrong.
Unless you don't believe in the 1st amendment ...but I think you do.
First, I'm going to explain in simple terms what this Act is...and an example of how this Act works.
Secondly I'll explain why as a Wiccan that supports gay marriage why I support this Act.
Thirdly I'll point out the hypocrisy of those that are speaking out against these RFRA's.
1. The difference between the state RFRAs vs the federal RFRA is simple but I believe important and make sense in terms with our first Amendment and States rights (ya know, The UNITED STATES of America). In the Indiana RFRA it allows a defendant to use their right to exercise their religion as a defense in a court of law against another civilian party. The Federal RFRA allows you only to use that defense against the Federal court.
This Act lets someone refuse service (yes, it does) on terms that to give service would go against someone else's religious beliefs but not to discriminate in the sense of service. That didn't make sense...here is an example, a clear and concise example that anyone could understand. I'm going with the baker example 'cause it's simple.
Example:
A gay couple are walking down the street, neatly dressed of course, and see a bakery, they decide to check it out. They meander in and Oooh and Ahhh at the lovely sweet morsels before their eyes. They purchase some sweets and fall in love...not with each other, they already love each other...the sweets, they fall in love with the sweets.
They become regular acquaintances with the sweets and the owner, it's a small business, like most bakeries, they are also probably an LLC, like most small businesses.
At this point the Baker knows they are gay (doesn't really care) and has never refused service or to 'discriminate' against them.
Then one day as they are planing their wedding and the cake comes into play...
They go to the Baker with glee, Pinterest on their iPad and ideas in their heads for their wedding cake.
The Baker informs them that because of her religious beliefs she can't participate in their wedding in any manner....but wishes them luck and hands the number of several other recommended bakeries.
The gay couple are a little taken aback and post something on FaceBook with regards to the slight they feel. ...but they get over their feelings being hurt and call some of the recommended bakeries.
The next day someone from the LGBT mafia contacts them and says let's sue the Baker for discrimination.
Without the RFRA the Baker has no legal standing. None.
No right to exercise their belief. None.
With the RFRA the Baker AND the gay couple are allowed their day in court and due process.
Note...Again...the federal RFRA is only allowed to be used for an individual AGAINST the federal government.
The Indiana state RFRA allows the defendant (the Baker) to use their right to religious freedom, (our 1st Amendment) in defense to the plaintiffs (the gay couple).
The court would then decide if the gay couple had been discriminated against or if the Baker was exercising their right to their religious belief.
Now...if the Baker had seen two men or two women walk in and refused to sell them eclairs because he/she believed them to be gay...that would be discrimination and sure as a Christian believes there to be a hell the court would hear that case and the baker would be laughed out of court.
2. “In Germany they came first for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to
speak up.”--Pastor Martin Niemöller, 1945
Someone needs to speak up and out against those that want to take away our 1st amendment...because it's one more step to take away our freedom.
Bit by bit they erode our rights as American citizens.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
That is a powerful statement and core to the USA.
How many politicians would like the government to control that which our press reports? (Ok, my bad, main stream media is already controlled.)
The uber religious fundamentalists aka Westboro baptist church...wouldn't you like to stop them from assembling in front of Service members funerals?
If you are a Jewish caterer and kosher is it discriminatory to refuse to cook a pork dish?
The ultra left thinks only their speech should not be hindered but others should be smothered.
3. The hypocrisy is robust in the left that speaks out against the RFRAs and their voice is the loudest. It doesn't make it factual.
Note...I'm not going into the hypocrites of the religious right like Ted Haggard...they are not for this blog.
Connecticut Gov. Malloy has banned State funded travel to Indiana...hilariously they have a RFRA ...Here is the key sticking point...
(c) A person whose exercise of religion has been burdened in violation of the provisions of this section may assert they violation as a claim or defense in a judicial proceeding and obtain appropriate relief against the state or any political subdivision of the state.
NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo has also banned State funded travel to Indiana, the offense is our 1st amendment.
He's planning on leading a trade commission to CUBA!
Where gay marriage is illegal and political dissidents are imprisoned and tortured.
He also hasn't banned state funded travel to Connecticut yet...
Angies' List is canceling it headquarters expansion over the religious freedom bill...or could it possibly be because last week Pennsylvania class action suit is being filled by its members alleging a scheme to defraud...it's putting on hold now a taxpayer subside of $18.5 billion they were hoping to get from the Indianapolis City-County Council that was in all probability going to be voted down...
Lets all take advantage of the band wagon.
Tim Cook of Apple and Marc Benioff of Salesforce are speaking out and perhaps pulling out of Indiana because of the RFRA...Insanely they find it fine and dandy to business in a country the has forced abortions, a horrible view on gay rights let alone human rights!..CHINA.
Is that enough? I hope so because I'm tired of the loudest and the most wrong getting the attention of the willfully ignorant...so I'm here to share the truth.
...I will be disregarded I'm sure though because some of been indoctrinated into believing everything the left says.
I love your example and I will be stealing it to share with everyone that wants to argue from the discrimination playbook.
